New Coastal Planer at Green Triangle Mt Gambier

A major component of the mill development at Green Triangle Forest Products Lakeside operations at Mount Gambier was the installation of a Coastal electric drive planer with profiling head by Acora Reneco Group and Coastal Machinery Company.

The planers construction is robust to say the least with the base constructed from 12" I beam and the frame plate being 11/2 inch thick steel, the feed rollers are 16 inches in diameter and are driven by eight 30 HP 1200 RPM motors. To keep in line with the increasing environmental desire to minimise hydraulics, this latest Coastal planer is offered with electric drive and sizing. Consequently it also has DC Setworks for the Top Head, Operator Side Head, Top Profile, and Bottom Profile. Roll control is critical when running at high speeds so the Coastal Planer is fitted with single cylinder position and tension press for the top rolls. It is also fitted with automatic jointers throughout.

The whole system is water cooled and has an automatic oil injection system for precision bearings to allow for smooth running. It also has quick open access to the pressure plate and hold down shoes giving the benefit of fast maintenance access. Another feature is the specially treated surface on the chip breaker shoes and hold over shoes. This is a patented process by Coastal which penetrates deeply into the surface and allows for significantly greater life span than the standard chrome finish. All other high wear areas feature R-90 chrome surfaces. The system is designed to run at a rate in excess of 600 metres per minute and is already showing excellent results for Green Triangle.
