Carter Holt Harvey to employ 'GoldenEye' at its Lakeside Plant

January 2010

We are greatly honoured to be selected by Carter Holt Harvey, the largest player in the softwood market in Australasia, for their first non-contact Grade Scanning System.

Acora Reneco and Microtec will install the complete system at CHH’s Lakeside Drymill during the first quarter of 2010.

The System comprises multi sensor scanners including X ray, Laser Scattering, Line Laser and Colour Camera to give unequalled vision of the board’s characteristics at up to 4,000 scans per second. Boards will be coded and tracked through Microtec’s proprietary vibration analysis system that measures the board’s natural frequency without microphones, to determine MOE.

The system will run at up to 700 metres per minute (or 120 pieces per minute) and will offer CHH’s customers the highest consistency and accuracy in grade sorting available anywhere in the world.

Microtec are supplying the scanners and controls and Acora Reneco the handling systems, installation and project management.

The CHH decision followed its viewing of similar systems in Europe and the GoldenEye installation at AKD’s Colac plant.

AKD have subsequently purchased and installed a second system including a dual chop saw line complete with sorting control via Microtec’s VarioSort system. This AKD line also includes the revolutionary M3Scan moisture system, which accurately detects moisture content independent of board density.
