Combi Spiral Disc
Over the years Soderhamns have specialised in pioneering revolutionary designs for the sawmill industry, one such was the chipper canter. Changing demands for reducing technology sparked a major product redevlopment for Soderhamns with their main targets being;
Optimal percentage of acceptable chips
Optimal finish
Quick knife change
Lowest possible power consumption
Chip length up to 30mmWith the Combi Spiral Disc all targets have been achieved!
Advantages of the Combi Spiral Disc
- Little or no modification to the existing reducer in order to install the new discs
- Optimal finish no tear outs with pre- or mid-sawing system in the centre
- Quick knife change pre-adjusted knives in the saw shop reduces the time for change number of knives are changed only partly in the disc as per a separate schedule
- Optimal percentage of acceptable chips about 90% in average
- Lowest possible power consumption smooth and vibration free chipping process
- Chip length up to 30mm suitable for the pulp and paper industry controlled thickness 6mm chip lengthadjustable due to feed speed and revolution
The Combi Spiral Disc can be mounted on any Soderhamns Chipper Canter as well as onto other brands.

Combi Spiral Disc Features
![]() Unique quality; chip length up to 30mm and 6mm thickness. Important for traction distribution. |
Optimal Percentage of Acceptable ChipsThe Combi Spiral Disc is a chipper with a unique ability: It produces a perfect 6mm chip irrespective of chip length. A feature that is essential for optimum fraction distribution, meaning there are little or no fraction 2 chips, even with fibre irregularities Optimal FinishCombi represents three different centre alternatives: pre-sawing sawblade for a saw surface free of pulled out knots, post-sawing for a sawn surface where minor knot defects are acceptable or centre disc with planing knives for chipping where some irregularities are acceptable. Quick Knife ChangeThe chipper knives are fitted with an adjustable screw allowing a quick, precise change, improving efficiency and giving lower maintenance costs. Lowest Power ConsumptionThe Combi Disc produces a parallel chip (ie. the main chipping direction of the knives is parallel to the fibre alignment of the timber). Practical tests have confirmed the Combi Spiral is superior in respect of chipping smoothly and vibration-free resulting in lower power consumption. Chip Length up to 30mmThe combi sprial disc can produce any chip length up to 30mm without changing the thickness of the chip. |

Combi Spiral Disc Options
The combi spiral disc is available in 4 different designs, combi spiral discs with planing disc, post sawing, intermediate (mid) sawing or pre-sawing sawblade.
Planing ring
Gives the best finish and produces negligble sawdust but is the most prone to tearout
Pre-sawing
Excellent sawn finish with small chance of tearout but produces the most sawdust
Intermediate
Good sawn finish with minimal tearout and less sawdust than with pre-sawing.
Post-sawing
Good sawn finish with minimal sawdust but is prone to tearout if fitted on the secondary breakdown machine.
